TV Gameshows -> Facebook Games

We haven't talked about convergence in a long time, have we? One big trend currently is to turn TV gameshows into games for social networking sites.

Just recently Facebook has sealed a deal with developer iWin and Endemol USA to create social games based on two of the best-known TV gameshows: Deal or No Deal and 1 vs 100. They will debut on the Facebook platform starting later this spring.

The news continues the trend of TV gameshows becoming games on social networks, as exemplified by FremantleMedia North America's version of Family Feud on the same social network last summer, produced with iWin. The potential offered by such moves was illustrated by the fact that Family Feud returned to air later that year with much higher ratings. FremantleMedia has also put a game based on The Price is Right on Facebook.

But not only TV gameshows are turned into social games, also web series.
Fox International Channels (FIC) has tapped the UK's Two Way Media to create a Facebook game based on web series The Booth at the End. The game, called The Deal, has been developed to tie in with FIC's roll-out of The Booth across its networks after it picked up the Vuguru-produced psychological drama from Content Digital at Mipcom last year.
